“I Am A Helper” Self Portrait Paper Dolls




Students will create self portraits inspired by Deborah Roberts’ work and Adrienne Brown-David’s “Minikin” dolls showing the student as a superhero. In Lesson 2 of this project, students will turn their self portraits into moveable paper dolls!

Grade Levels: 2-3
Time Needed: 2-3 Sessions, 30-50 minutes each

This lesson is written with a focus on elementary, but could be adapted for older ages. It includes essential questions and enduring understandings, vocabulary, a materials list, standards connections, inspirational artist bios and links, discussion questions, book suggestions, and sequencing.
